How To Combine Positive Affirmations With Game Time

Today I will be discussing with you how to use positive affirmations with game time to help your kids learn how to have a better mindset.  Blending your time playing games with your kids and teaching them can lead to much better results then trying to teach them directly.

What Are Positive Affirmations?

Positive Affirmations are phrases that you should use in your daily life to help keep you directed on a good path.  Some examples would be:

  • I Am Learning And Having FunI am Happy
  • I am Healthy
  • I am Strong
  • I am Thinking Positively
  • I am Improving Myself
  • I am Calm & Patient

As you can see these are powerful statements that when used on a daily basis will make big difference in your life.  You see, our brains listen to us and when we dwell on something it will bring that into our lives.  That is why it is important to use affirmations like this, so that you are attracting positive things into your life.

An Example Of How A Change Helped Me

So I use to be really bad at remembering peoples names and when introduced to new people I would apologize up front and let them know that.  Then one day after I apologized the gentleman looked at me and asked why I would do that to myself.

He told me that when I admitted that I was not good at remembering names, I was only making the problem worse.  He told me that our minds listen to us and mine always heard me say that I couldn’t remember names and reinforced that behavior.

Now when I meet people I tell them that I am working on remembering names and I really do!

Instead, he told me to start telling people that I was working on improving my ability to remember names.  I still remember the first party I went to after learning this and it was for my daughter’s classmate so I barely knew anyone there.  That whole day each time I was introduced to someone new I would let them know that I was working on improving my ability to remember names.  At the end of the day I knew everyone’s name at the party and was simply amazed by that fact.

To this day I am now pretty good at remembering peoples names when I meet them.  It was all because I made that one little change in the way I thought and spoke.  Just imagine how this concept can be applied to other areas of your life.

Using Affirmations With Games

When it comes to having your family game night, you will want to set a good example of using positive affirmations with your kids.  If you catch them using a negative one, use that moment to explain to them why they should work on the way they phrase their statement.

Here is a list of phrases that could come in handy when you are playing games:

  • We are having fun!
  • We are learning!
  • Lets enjoy the game!
  • You are really working at this!

A lot of methods I use to raise my kids were inspired by this book.

The basic gist of it here is to talk positively and leave the negative stuff at the door.  Always focus on the good things and the work and effort that it took to get there.

I would also avoid phrases like, “You are really smart” and instead encourage the behavior that got them to that point and say, “You worked really hard on that.”  The difference is that by reinforcing the behavior they learn to work hard for results.  If you just say that they are smart, you will find that they will be more keen to take the easy route just to get the compliment.  For more information on this particular subject I would recommend the book I read:  The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle.

Wrap Up

There are many benefits to having a positive mindset and even more when you can instill that concept into a kid’s mind.  With the right mindset challenges in life are easier to overcome and success will find it’s way in more then failure.

If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below and I will do my best to answer them promptly.  I would also love to hear about how using positive affirmations has been an influence on your life.
